Superintendent Everett Jones, a native of Natchez, Mississippi, is the Senior Pastor of
Abundant Life Church of God in Christ. As a young teenager he accepted Jesus Christ as
his Lord and Saviour and was the only member of his immediate family to be saved.
Superintendent Jones often shares the story of how many did not believe he would stay
saved but how God put commitment in his heart even as a young person.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and
not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11)
Called to the ministry in 1968, Superintendent Jones was licensed to preach in 1969 under
the leadership of the late Superintendent Levi C. Gant, Pastor of Trueway COGIC in Dallas,
Texas. He worked untiringly and unselfishly by the side of his pastor until Superintendent
Gant’s demise. In July 1987 Superintendent Jones was ordained an elder in Texas
Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the leadership of the Honorable Bishop J.
Neaul Haynes.
"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But
God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another." (Psalm 75:6-7)
The elevation of Superintendent Jones began with his obedience to the voice of God in
August 1988 to begin a ministry in Grand Prairie, Texas. As a result, he faithfully
shepherded the congregation of Reformed COGIC for nine years. In 1994, in the midst of
his first pastoral assignment, God elevated him by appointment to Superintendent of the
Saintsville District. On June 11, 1997 he was officially installed by Bishop J. Neaul Haynes
as the pastor of Abundant Life COGIC in Dallas, Texas where he continues to
compassionately change lives one soul at a time.
"And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge
and understanding." (Jeremiah 3:15)
Superintendent Jones has been married to his best friend and soulmate, the lovely, gracious,
and talented Bessie Willis Jones for 40 years. They are blessed with four children: Felicia,
Melanee, Jason and Justin. They also have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
"Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. Her
children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her."
(Proverbs 31:23, 28)
Superintendent Jones is a loving, kind, considerate and generous man. He is a man with a
broad sense of humor who can fill you with laughter yet in the midst bring conviction to
your heart as he ministers the Word of God. His teaching and preaching ranges from the
practical to the profound as his focus is on developing the whole person into the person
God intends them to become. He spends much of his time motivating, encouraging,
instructing and correcting the entire church body and has a special place in his heart for the
children as well as the senior members of his congregation. He is the owner and operator
of J & L Grass Company located in Grand Prairie, Texas. He is a man who wears many
hats and God has given him the grace to wear them well!
"Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will
perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:6)
